Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He answered, “It does not befit me to prostrate myself to a human whom You have created from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 for an appointed time." 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44
