Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
