I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning unto humankind 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
