The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
