The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
