The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a mighty Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those who deny the Day of Judgment 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then indeed they have to enter hell. 16 and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 A book inscribed, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 A fountain whereof will drink those brought nigh. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and when they saw them said: 'These are they who are astray' 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
