Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
