Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
