The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
