The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
