Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
