Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
