Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind 6 Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms! 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 Then came the Pharaoh, and those before him whose habitations were overthrown while they were committing crimes. 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 Verily We! when the water rose, We bare you upon the traversing ark. 11 So that We may make it a reminder to you, and that the retaining ear might retain it. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound a single blast. 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm. 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 So he will be in a pleasant life - 21 In high empyrean 22 its fruits are near. 23 (They will be told): “Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for the good deeds you did in the days that have passed by.” 24 As for him whose Record will be given to him in his left hand, he will exclaim: “Would that I had never been given my Record, 25 Nor that I knew my reckoning! 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has availed me nothing: 28 and my authority has vanished.” 29 'Take him, and fetter him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 and he never urged the feeding of the needy; 34 On this day, they will have no friends 35 and the only food he has is filth 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
