The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
