The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
