The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his brightness, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
