'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
