The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
