Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
