The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
