The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
