The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
