And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 "If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, then verily! You indeed would be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
