Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
