Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gives a little and (then) withholds. 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the unseen, thus, he sees (all things)? 35 Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa? 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another; 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 That his endeavours will be judged, 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep, 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 and He it is Who created the two kinds, the male and the female, 45 From the small seed when it is adapted 46 And that only upon Him is the next revival? 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 And that He destroyed the first [people of] 'Aad 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. 55 This is a warner from the warners of ancient times. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And you laugh, and do not weep! 60 and divert yourselves all the while? 61 Rather, prostrate to Allah and worship Him. ۩ 62
