The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
