The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a few from later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
