The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
