Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
