And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is only a man who invents lies against God, so have no faith in him". 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 The blast justly struck them and We reduced them to rubble. Away with such wicked people! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
