The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
