Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 And had We revealed it unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 Think! If We let them enjoy life for some years, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 The satans did not bring down this (Clear Book), 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And be kind and humble to the believers who follow you. 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 Verily! He, only He, is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 who lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
