The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
