He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
