We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 Then the Pharaoh followed them with his army, but the sea overpowered and engulfed them. 78 And Firaun led his people astray, and did not guide them. 79 O children of Israel! indeed We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the blessed side of the mountain, and We sent to you the manna and the quails. 80 Saying: eat of the clean things wherewith We have provided you, and wax not exorbitant in respect thereof, lest My wrath alight on you; and upon whomsoever My wrath alighteth, he surely perisheth. 81 And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction. 82 ۞ "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?" 83 Moses replied, "They are just behind me. I came earlier to seek Your pleasure". 84 But God said, "We have tested your people in your absence. The Samiri has led them astray." 85 So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?" 86 They said, "We did not break our promise to you by our will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people [of Pharaoh], so we threw them [into the fire], and thus did the Samiri throw." 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 Why did they not see that it could not give them any response and had no power to harm or benefit them? 89
