Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
