The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
