۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
