And indeed We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Travel by night with Ibadi (My slaves) and strike a dry path for them in the sea, fearing neither to be overtaken [by Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] nor being afraid (of drowning in the sea)." 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were submerged by the sea, which was destined to overwhelm them. 78 The Pharaoh and his people had gone away from guidance. 79 O ye Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a Covenant with you on the right side of Mount (Sinai), and We sent down to you Manna and quails: 80 I allowed you to consume the pure sustenance which We had given you but not to become rebels, lest you become subject to My wrath. Whoever becomes subject to My wrath will certainly be destroyed. 81 I am All-forgiving to the righteously striving believers who repent and follow the right guidance. 82 ۞ [Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?" 83 He said: They are here on my track and I hastened on to Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be pleased. 84 [Allah] said, "But indeed, We have tried your people after you [departed], and the Samiri has led them astray." 85 Moses returned to his people full of wrath and grief, and said: "My people! Has your Lord not made good an excellent promise He made to you? And has a long time passed since those promises were fulfilled? Or was it to incur the wrath of your Lord that you broke your promise with me?" 86 They answered, "We did not break our promise to you of our own accord, but we had to carry loads of the people's ornaments and so we threw them [into the fire] for that was what the Samiri suggested," 87 then he forged a calf for them -- an image producing a lowing sound. They said, "This is your deity, the deity of Moses; he has forgotten it." 88 What? Did they not see that thing returned no speech unto them, neither had any power to hurt or profit them? 89
