'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
