The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
