Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
