Certainly Aaron had said to them even before (the return of Moses): "My people, you were fallen into error because of the calf. Surely your Lord is Most Compassionate; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They had said: "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us." 91 (Musa) said: O Haroun! what prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 Did you disobey my orders?" 93 He [Harun (Aaron)] said: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard, nor by my head! Verily, I feared lest you should say: 'You have caused a division among the Children of Israel, and you have not respected my word!' " 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 He answered: "I saw what the people did not see. So I took a handful of dust from the trail of the Messenger, and I flung it (into the fire). Thus did my mind prompt me." 96 Moses said, "Begone! It shall be your lot to say throughout your life, "Do not touch me," and you will be faced with a fate from which there will be no escape. Now look at your deity to which you have become so devoted: we shall burn it up, and then scatter it into the sea. 97 Your only deity is God - He save whom there is no deity, [and who] embraces all things within His knowledge!" 98 Thus We recount unto thee some tidings of that which hath preceded; and surely We have vouchsafed unto thee from before Us an admonition. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 On the day when the Trumpet is blown and We shall assemble the guilty on that day, blue -eyed. 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but one day." 104
