۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Most surely you will taste the painful punishment. 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Are we not then to die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
