Remind them, therefore, that by the grace of your Lord you are neither a soothsayer nor possessed. 29 Or do they say: A poet, we wait for him the evil accidents of time. 30 Say: Wait, for surely I too with you am of those who wait. 31 Is it their minds that bid them [to take] this [attitude] - or are they [simply] people filled with overweening arrogance? 32 Or do they say: "He himself has composed this [message]"? Nay, but they are not willing to believe! 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Or do they own the treasures of thy Lord? Or have they been given charge (thereof)? 37 Or have they a stairway (to heaven), by means of which they listen (to the talks of the angels)? Then let their listener produce some manifest proof. 38 Or, [if you believe in God, how can you believe that] He has [chosen to have] daughters, whereas you yourselves would have [only] sons? 39 Or do you ask them for a reward, so that they are overburdened by a debt? 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan. 42 Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)! 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 The Day when their plotting shall not avail them at all nor will they be helped (i.e. they will receive their torment in Hell). 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 And wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, for surely you are before Our eyes, and sing the praise of your Lord when you rise; 48 and extol His glory at night, and at the time when the stars retreat. 49
