A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
