Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
