Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
