Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibrael (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 Then he turned quickly to his household, brought out a fatted calf, 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 beginning to be afraid of them. But they said, "Don't be afraid"; and they gave him the good news of a son who would be endowed with knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "Messengers, what is your task?" 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 That we may send down upon them stone of clay, 33 They are transgressors in the presence of your Lord". 34 So We removed the people who had faith, from that town. 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 And We have left there a sign (i.e. the place of the Dead Sea, well-known in Palestine) for those who fear the painful torment. 37 And in Musa (Moses) (too, there is a sign). When We sent him to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with a manifest authority. 38 and he turned away in [the pride of] his power and said, "A sorcerer [is this Moses,] or a madman!" 39 We therefore seized him and his army and threw them into the sea, while he was blaming himself. 40 And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind 41 which spared nothing of what it came upon, but caused [all of] it to become like bones dead and decayed. 42 And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" 43 But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling overtook them while they saw. 44 They were unable to stand up, nor were they helped. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
