He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
